About Walter E. Gugerbauer

Born in Linz, Walter E. Gugerbauer studied composition, organ, and conducting in Linz and Vienna. His career has included positions with the Vienna Boys’ Choir (Kapellmeister 1979–1982), Städtische Bühnen Heidelberg (Kapellmeister 1982–1987), Niedersächsische Staatsoper Hannover (Kapellmeister 1987–1990), Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Principle Kapellmeister 1990–1996), Kiel Opera (General Music Director 1995–1998), Theater Erfurt (General Music Director 2000–2012), and Theater Hof (Music Director and Principle Conductor 2017–2019). He has conducted in the opera houses of Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, Tokyo, Havana, and Poznan, and has been a guest conductor with prominent orchestras throughout Europe.
