About Jobst Liebrecht

The conductor and composer, Jobst Liebrecht, studied with Hermann Michael at the
Hochschule für Musik in Munich, as well as with Peter Eötvös. He has worked with
renowned new music groups such as Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble
Köln, Ensemble Resonanz, and Ensemble United Berlin. He has conducted the Radio
Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Duisburg Philharmonic, the Sinfonietta Leipzig, and
the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He has also conducted in the opera houses of
Hamburg, Halle, and Gießen. Internationally, Liebrecht has also appeared in Argentina,
Georgia, South Korea, Switzerland, and the USA. Liebrecht conducted the premieres
of the operas Lunu by Moritz Eggert and Gloria von Jaxtberg by H.K. Gruber, as well as
the music theater piece Der Golem in Bayreuth by Ulla Berkewicz and Lesch Schmidt at
the Vienna Burgtheater (with the director Einar Schleef). Liebrecht has recorded the
complete works of the Italian avant-garde composer Franco Evangelisti for the West
German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR) in Cologne. Liebrecht has taken part in
numer ous CD recordings. In 2004, his WERGO recording of Hans Werner Henze’s fairy
tale opera Pollicino was awarded the ECHO Klassik prize within the category “Classic for
Children”. Also available on WERGO is his recording of Dieter Schnebel’s Orchestra featuring
students from the music universities in Berlin. Jobst Liebrecht has led the
Marzahn-Hellersdorf Symphonic Youth Orchestra since the group was founded in 2005.
