About Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen RundfunksThe Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, founded in 1949 by Eugen Jochum, has developed into an internationally acclaimed institution. It was the only German orchestra that collaborated for many years with Leonard Bernstein. In addition, the orchestra has a long tradition of supporting New Music. The orchestra was ranked one of the world’s ten best by the British Gramophone magazine, an assessment also shared by the Japanese music journal Mostly Classic. Mariss Jansons has expanded the orchestra’s extensive discography with the release of numerous CDs, which have been awarded a Grammy for “Best Orchestral Performance”, the German Record Critics’ Award, and the ECHO Klassik award.
