Berner Symphonieorchester
About Berner Symphonieorchester
The Berner Symphonieorchester, founded in 1877 and one of the four planks of the Konzert Theater Bern institution, consists of some 100 musicians from 18 different nations. With the beginning of the 2010/2011 season, Mario Venzago became chief conductor of the orchestra. Renowned soloists have contributed in extending the reputation of the orchestra beyond the country’s borders. Distinguished artists such as Joshua Bell, Elisabeth Leonskaja and Mischa Maisky, as well as young classical stars such as Sol Gabetta, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Fazil Say, David Fray, and Daniel Müller-Schott have performed with the orchestra. The Berner Symphonieorchester performs ca. 50 concerts every season. They also participated in the production of the Swiss television, "La Bohème" (amid apartment blocks in Berne, 2009). In addition to guest appearances in Switzerland and abroad, live broadcasts and CD recordings are an important part of the orchestra’s activities.www.konzerttheaterbern.ch/bso
