About Ensemble Ascolta

Ensemble Ascolta has enriched the New Music scene in Germany and Europe with unique sound colors and innovative projects since 2003. Ascolta has commissioned and premiered more than 250 compositions for its unusual instrumental formation, including works by Pierluigi Billone, Chaya Czernowin, Beat Furrer, Isabel Mundry, Olga Neuwirth, and Hans Thomalla. The ensemble has been invited to important New Music festivals – including the Donaueschingen Festival, the Witten Days for New Chamber Music, Festival Eclat in Stuttgart, the Lucerne Festival, Ultima Oslo, and Wien Modern – and has performed internationally in Singapore, Israel, and the USA.
The seven members of the ensemble are interested in exploring scenic concert formats as well as the border regions between new, old, and popular music. In collaboration with artists from the fields of video, performance, and multi media, the ensemble has participated in projects such as Der absolute Film and Schatten (in cooperation with ZDF/arte), Jennifer Walshe’s meanwhile, back at the ranch, Simon Steen-Andersen’s Inszenierte Nacht, and the music theater production Vor dem Gesetz by Martin Smolka and Jiqí Adámek.
Current productions include the music theater 7 Zwerge for children by Gordon Kampe and Manfred Weiß, Skin Deep by Stefan Prins, which plays with multiple identities, and the transmedial dialogues Echoräume by Felicitas Hoppe, Anja Kampmann (texts), Iris ter Schiphorst and Elnaz Seyedi (music).
