About Stefan Keller

Stefan Keller was born in Zurich in 1974. He studied oboe at the Zurich University of the Arts as well as composition, music theory, and electroacoustic music at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. In 2019, he received a doctorate in Comparative Musicology from the Freie Universität Berlin.
Stefan Keller has taught at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin since 2006. In 2008/2009 he attended the “Cursus 1” at IRCAM in Paris and received a residence award for the Cité des arts in Paris from the Berlin Senate. In 2012/2013 he received a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD for a year in Mumbai, and in 2019/2020 he was a resident at the German Academy Villa Massimo in Rome.
A central aspect of his music is the physicality of rhythm and sound. In addition, his extensive study of the North Indian tabla and Khyal singing has had a profound influence on his work as a composer.
