About Annesley Black
Born in Ottawa, Canada, in 1979, Annesley Black studied composition with Brian Cherney in Montreal, York Höller and Hans Ulrich Humpert in Cologne and Mathias Spahlinger, Orm Finnendahl (electronic music) and Cornelius Schwehr (applied music) in Freiburg. Among her many awards and distinctions are a scholarship to the Darmstadt Holiday Courses (2006), the Busoni Composition Prize from the Berlin Academy of the Arts (2008) and the Stuttgart Composition Prize (2009). She was also a fellow at the Berlin Academy of Arts in 2009. Her compositions have been performed by Ensemble Modern, Ensemble ascolta, ensemble mosaik, Ensemble SurPlus, ECM+ (Ensemble contemporain de Montréal), Nouvel Ensemble Moderne and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra at such noteworthy venues as the Witten Days of New Chamber Music, the Donaueschingen Festival, the Warsaw Autumn, the Ultraschall Festival (Berlin), the Eclat Festival (Stuttgart), the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Centre for Art and Media Technology (Karlsruhe) and Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart).
