About Erik Borgir
Born into a family of Norwegian musicians, Erik Borgir grew up in the USA and studied at both the Oberlin Conservatory and the New England Conservatory in Boston. His teachers were Steven Doane, Harvey Shapiro, Siegfried Palm, Menahem Pressler and the Alban Berg Quartet, among others.From 1993 to 2001, he gave concerts as member of the internationally acclaimed Emanon Trio in many European countries. In addition, he was solo cellist of the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra, cellist of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, and lecturer at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik at Trossingen. Erik Borgir is one of the founding members of the Ensemble ascolta which ranks among the most renowned ensembles of new music throughout the world.
Being in great demand as a soloist and chamber musician, he regularly gives guest performances at all major festivals, such as at Donaueschingen, Vienna, Lucerne, Berlin, Salzburg and Darmstadt. Several renowned composers wrote solo works for the cellist which have been released on CD. Since 2011 Erik Borgir has taught cello and chamber music at the conservatoire in Lucerne where he is also head of the Department of New Music.
