À propos de Sofia von Atzingen

Sofia von Atzingen studied viola at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil and the University of Music in Karlsruhe. Her enthusiasm for contemporary music led her to pursue a master’s degree in New Music with Barbara Maurer at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and to write her doctoral dissertation on Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the UFMG. Since 2022, she has been a member of Ensemble Recherche, with whom she performs as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition, she is a founding member of the catinblack ensemble, a string trio for viola, cello, and double bass. She has performed at many of Europe’s most important festivals including Ultraschall Berlin, Acht Brücken Köln, NOW! Essen, the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, the Salzburg Festival, Musica Nova Helsinki, and ECLAT Stuttgart. She has also toured internationally in Finland, Korea, Japan, Greece, Sweden, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and the USA. She has taught instrumentalists and composers in numerous master classes at, for example, the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the summer class of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, the University of Ljubljana’s Academy of Music, the Delian Academy for New Music, Aichi University, Kunitachi University, Harvard University, and the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
