About Hyun-Jung Berger

Hyun-Jung Berger, born in Seoul, South Korea, studied with Hae-Geun Kang, Julius Berger, and Thomas Demenga. In 1991, she accepted a teaching position at the Saarbrücken University of Music, and later taught at the University of Mainz and the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music. Since 2008, she has been a lecturer in cello at the University of Augsburg’s Leopold Mozart Center. In 2025, as part of her teaching activities, she founded the cello academy CelloPassionato.
Recitals and chamber music concerts have taken Hyun-Jung Berger to Israel and the USA. She has been a guest at the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Kronberg Cello Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival (at the invitation of Gidon Kremer), and the Asiago Festival in Italy.
As a soloist, she has performed with the Festival Strings Lucerne, Kremerata Baltica, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Beethovenhalle Orchestra Bonn, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Korean Symphony Orchestra, among many others. As Artistic Director of the Asiago Festival Korea, she works to deepen the ties between Europe and her native Korea.
