About Corby Welch
The tenor Corby Welch studied voice at the University of Minnesota with Lawrence Weller and at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim/Heidelberg with Rudolf Piernay. A sought-after concert singer, he has performed at the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart, the Oregon Bach Festival, and the Ruhrfestspielen Recklinghausen, and works regularly with conductors such as Frieder Bernius, Kent Nagano, Helmuth Rilling, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Christoph Spering. Since the 2003–4 season Corby Welch is a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Guest engagements have brought him to Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Aalto Musiktheater Essen, the Nationale Reisopera Enschede, the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, as well as the Schwetzingen and Ludwigsburg festivals. His repertoire ranges from Monteverdi by way of Mozart and Strauss to Henze in productions under the musical direction of Michael Hofstetter, Ingo Metzmacher, and Stefan Soltesz.
