About Johannes Boris Borowski

Johannes Boris Borowski was born in Hof, Germany, in 1979. He studied composition with Hanspeter Kyburz in Berlin and Marco Stroppa in Paris and music theory with Jörg Mainka in Berlin. From 2007 to 2013 he taught theory, ear training and analysis at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, adding orchestration in 2014.

His compositions have been played in Germany and abroad by such leading ensembles and orchestras as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, International Contemporary Ensemble, the Stuttgart RSO, the Chicago Symphony and the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, headed by conductors of the stature of Pierre Boulez, Susanna Mälkki, George Benjamin, Peter Eötvös and Daniel Barenboim. His major recent commissions including the orchestral piece “change” with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra under Pierre Boulez (2008) and the ensemble piece “Mappe” with Ensemble intercontemporain under Susanna Mälkki (2010).

Among his awards and distinctions are the Hanns Eisler Prize (Berlin), the Stuttgart Composition Prize and scholarships to the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2007), Schloss Wiepersdorf (2011) and Baden-Baden (Baldreit Scholarship, 2012).
