About Dieter Manderscheid

Dieter Manderscheid is a German jazz double bass player. He studied music from 1977 to 1984 in Saarbrucken and Cologne. In addition to his solo work, Manderscheid has appeared in various bands: in a duo with Frank Gratkowski, quartet with Gratkowski, Wolter Wierbos and Gerry Hemingway, quartet with Martin Blume, John Bauer and Luc Houtkamp, duo with Thomas Heberer, the trio Village zone with Georg Ruby and Christian Thome, and the Syntopia quartet of Albrecht Maurer. In 2007 he joined the James Choice Orchestra at the Cologne Music Triennale. Manderscheid has continuously taken part in German and international jazz festivals, and went on concert tours on behalf of the Goethe Institute through India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, West Africa, East Africa, Madagascar, North and South America. In 1990 he received the Prize of the German Record Critics for “Chicago Breakdown”in a duo with Tho mas Heberer. From 1991 to 1998 he taught at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt, and since 1994 at the Cologne University of Music, where he has been a professor of jazz bass since 2002. In addition, he also gives workshops at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music.
