Commissioned by Peter Asprey and premiered by the Choir of Holy Sepulchre, London, Lucy Walker’s O sing to the Lord was written as the introit for a special service marking St Cecilia’s Day in 2024.

The uplifting text, taken from Psalm 96, has inspired composers across the ages, and in this new setting, Walker explores a contrapuntal texture in which all vocal lines, derived from the opening melody, remain in continuous, harmonious dialogue. Though brief, the work captures the wonder and joy of singing, celebrating the energy and unity of collective music-making.

This short concert-opener will suit experienced choirs looking for a joyful addition to services or joyful occasions throughout the year.
