Schott Music presents George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, published as part of a new critical edition dedicated to reconstructing the composer’s works, as he originally intended.
The Final Version and Uncut Version are both based on Gershwin’s handwritten manuscripts, with corrections made to alterations introduced in a revised edition by F. Campbell-Watson. This has made it possible to restore the composer’s intended orchestration, including the famous Parisian taxi horns.
Another special edition of this edition is the inclusion of playing techniques that reflect performance practices of Gershwin’s time, identified through early recordings. These details bring a renewed authenticity to one of the twentieth century’s best-loved orchestral works, capturing its mix of wanderlust, nostalgia, and the vibrancy of modern city life.
Both publications are now available from Schott Music.
