Sylvia Koke studied singing (Artist’s Diploma "with distinction," Concert Exam) as well as music, German, and English in Cologne (first and second state exams). Permanent engagements took the dramatic coloratura soprano to the Aalto Music Theater in Essen and the Dortmund Opera. With roles such as Violetta, Fiordiligi, Frau Fluth, Lucia di Lammermoor, Konstanze, Gilda, Nedda, the Queen of the Night, and the three women in Tales of Hoffmann, as well as numerous performances of both early and contemporary music, she has made guest appearances at numerous theaters, opera houses, concert halls, and festivals in Germany and abroad such as the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Teatro El Escorial, Opernhaus Montpellier, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Festwochen für Alte Musik Innsbruck. She has worked with George Tabori, Konrad Junghänel, Sir Colin Davis, Edda Moser, Lieselotte Hammes, Michaela Krämer, Kurt Moll, Irwin Gage, David Stahl, Silviu Puc1rete, Immo Karaman, Elisabeth Stöppler, Gabriele Rech, François de Carpentries, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the German humorist Loriot, among others. Audio productions such as Anton Schweitzer’s Alceste and Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, appearances on radio and television, and recital and concert programs complement her singing activities.
