About Walter Courvoisier
As a composition teacher at the Munich Academy of Music, Swiss-born Walter Courvoisier (1875-1931) was one of the outstanding figures of Germany’s music scene in the first third of the 20th century (after first studying medicine, following a family tradition). Among his composition students were Dora Pejačević (1885-1923), Paul Ben-Haim (1897-1984), Hermann Reutter (1900-1985), and Heinrich Sutermeister (1910-1995). Courvoisier himself was a pupil of Ludwig Thuille (1861-1907), whose musical and educational legacy in particular he felt bound to, and as such is counted among the inner circle of the "Munich School".
