About Tatjana Masurenko

Tatjana Masurenko studied viola in St. Petersburg and later in Germany with Kim
Kashkashian and Nobuko Imai. Important influences on her artistic development
were Boris Pergamenschikow, György Kurtág, and Brigitte Fassbaender. Masu-
renko has performed as a soloist in Europe, Russia, and Asia. She has played with
orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony
Orchestra, the German Chamber Philharmonic in Bremen, and the NDR Radio
Philharmonic in Hanover, with conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Marek
Janowski, and Gary Walker. Masurenko is a frequent guest at international chamber
music festivals and has been the recipient of numerous prizes from competitions
such as the Lionel Tertis International Viola Com petition, the Inter national
Viola Competition in Markneukirchen, and the Yuri Bashmet Com petition. Her
chamber music partners have included Heinrich Schiff, Gidon Kremer, Lars Vogt,
Isabelle Faust, Christian Tetzlaff, Steven Isserlis, Carolin and Jörg Widmann, as
well as Jana Bouškova. Numerous CD recordings document Masurenko’s work.
She has received the German Record Critics’ Award and the Diapason découverte.
Since 2003, Masurenko has been professor for viola at the University of Music
and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig.
