About Rico Baumann

Rico Baumann (1983) was born in Bern and grew up in a musical family where he came into early contact with various musical styles. As a result, he soon was playing in his father Simon LeBey’s projects, which included Gypsy jazz, pop, and chanson. Baumann later studied drums with Balts Nill and Gilbert Paeffgen, as well as percussion with Martin Hägler. From 2003 to 2007, he studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Billy Brooks, Jan Fabricky, and Fabian Kuratli. Baumann received a scholarship from the Friedl Wald Foundation in 2006 and has been a teacher at the Bern Conservatory since 2007.
His musical activities could not be more diverse. In addition to his own bass and percussion duo, the Next Generation Orchestra, he plays with various musical groups both large and small: Die Pilze, the Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Trio Total, Elina Duni and the Golden Boys, the Simon Heggendorn Quartet, Hydrian Gathering, and Kreisler’s Music and Poetry Club. Baumann also occupies himself with composition, production, and design.
