About Luzius Schuler

Luzius Schuler (1989) is a freelance musician, composer, and producer. He plays in various bands in the areas of jazz, improvisation, and pop. At the moment, his solo piano program “Moon is the Oldest TV” is the focus of his artistic work. In the chamber music collective Esche, Schuler plays acoustic and prepared piano, composes, and develops improvisation concepts; in the alternative pop band Alois, he plays organ and other electronic devices and participates in the writing of songs; in the Indie-Jazz quartet Weird Beard, he plays Rhodes and synthesizer. He can be also heard as a sideman (with Dino Brandão, for example) in numerous other projects and ad-hoc ensembles, and is increasingly busy with projects that combine music and visual material (collaborations with video artists and silent film music). As a board member of the Tuesday Jams, co-organizer of a series of house concerts, and curator of a four-day jazz festival in Langenthal, he is also occupied with outreach and organization.
Schuler has won a Friedl Wald Scholarship, and in 2019 he received a Paris Atelier Scholarship from the canton of Bern. He has been a jazz piano teacher at the Hochschule for the Arts and the Pedagogic Hochschule in Bern, and currently teaches privately and at the Music Conservatory in Zurich.
