About Katharina Deserno

Katharina Deserno (violoncello) studied in Frankfurt, Paris, and Cologne with Maria Kliegel, Gerhard Mantel, and Philippe Muller. She received further inspiration and artistic impulses from Janos Starker, Siegfried Palm, and György Kurtag, among others. During her studies, she was already an assistant to Maria Kliegel. Since 2008, she has taught at the Hochschule for Music and Dance in Cologne; many of her students have won prizes at national and international competitions. Katharina Deserno is often invited to give master classes for young cellists. In 2014, she received a doctorate in musicology, and since April 2015 she has been a professor of instrumental pedagogy at the Hochschule for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt. Her concert programs emphasize contemporary composers, many of whom have dedicated compositions to her.
