About Ensemble Horizonte

Ensemble Horizonte, based in Detmold, Germany, has since 1990 devoted itself primarily but not exclusively to contemporary music. The size of the group ranges from duos to a 16-member ensemble. More important than a fixation on any particular style was and is the wish to create contexts and provide points of orientation even for listeners unfamiliar with New Music, through thematic emphases and the exploration of specific spatial situations. In this way, connections between Tradition and Modernism, as well as interactions between music and other art forms, serve as a key to new experiences and perspectives. An example of this is the group’s Klopstock program, “Then My Soul Rises”, which the musicians presented at important locations from the poet’s life in Hamburg, Copenhagen, and Zurich. The Ensemble Horizonte has worked in association with theaters, well-known guest artists and composers, German radio and television organizations, and other performance venues in Germany and abroad. Recent concert engagements have taken the group to Paris, Brussels, Bern, and Venice.
