Musikverlag Robert Lienau

Musikverlag Robert Lienau is one of Germany’s oldest music publishers. The music publishing house evolved from the Berlin book and music shop “Schlesinger‘sche Buch- und Musikhandlung” founded by Adolph Martin Schlesinger in 1810. Schlesinger acquired a solid international reputation as Carl Maria von Weber’s principal publisher. From 1864 the company was continued in Berlin by three successive generations of the Lienau family and, in 1990, was taken over by a Frankfurt-based family of music publishers. Its registered office has been in Mainz since 2016.

The publishing programme features large-scale orchestral and stage works, among them several major compositions by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, for whom Robert Heinrich Lienau was not only a supporter but also a friend. Other core areas of the programme are educational works and editions for piano, string instruments and chamber music, including contemporary compositions. The three song series “Hosianna”, “Operngesänge” and “Vox Humana” are very well known. The annually published calendar (“Tonkünstler-Kalender”) is a daily companion for many a musician.
