Toccata

This Toccata Opus 9, an early work dating from 1963, is one of Guillou’s most often-played works. This brilliant piece works through three themes whose individual character creates a progressive increase in tension. The whole work serves to display the two aspects of the organ: its melodic flexibility and percussive power, lending the work a character that is at the same time tragic and passionate. A masterpiece of the 20th Century, suitable for concert performance and competitions.
