2nd String quartet f minor

„Depth of content, exuberant liveliness and refinement of compositional technique“ – praises Samuel Rhodes, the violist of the renowned Juilliard String Quartet, Paul Hindemith's string quartets. The composer composed the Quartet op. 10 in 1918 at the front in Alsace, and yet it shows not the slightest influence of the terrible events of the war. The three-movement work is full of youthful exuberance and reflects Hindemith's new compositional techniques. His mastery and imagination in the use of the instruments prove that he was already completely familiar with the string quartet genre. This is the first time that all of Paul Hindemith's string quartets have been published according to the text of the Paul Hindemith Complete Edition.
