Description
Jörg Widmann's scenic ensemble piece takes up an ancient topos of Babylonian mythology: the encounter of the goddess of love Inanna with Death – in female form as Sister Death. The song text by Peter Sloterdijk tells how Inanna descends into the underworld in order to achieve the impossible: To persuade Death through vulnerability to allow her lover Tammu to return to life. An intense dialog is sparked – mirrored in music that oscillates between expressive outbursts and meditative contemplation.
