Scent Dance V joins four other works by composer Xuntian He under the same title, which he wrote for different instruments. In addition to works for clarinet solo, viola solo, violoncello solo, piano solo, and string quartet, the composer has now added a work for the classical piano trio. Composed for the SHCMMS International Chamber Music Competition, Scent Dance V demands rhythmic precision and exact ensemble playing. The music slowly builds from sporadically placed notes to an ecstatic, furious finale.
