Description
Set across four movements, 'Quatre Tableaux’ (French for ‘Four Pictures') presents four vignettes that progressively build in intensity. The work begins with a luminous calmness that gradually escalates through virtuosity and fervent playing. The work primarily explores and relishes the homogeneous sound of the string quartet as one body, juxtaposing calmness and energy as a way of propelling the piece forward. The French title is a nod to the Impressionist art movement, characterised by its emphasis on capturing fleeting moments and the effects of light and colour.
