About Viktor Grishin
Viktor Grishin (timpani) was born in Moscow and in 1965 began his education at the music school of the Moscow Conservatory. Four years later he began studying with Professor Valentin M. Snegirev at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1972 he performed with the Conservatory Orchestra (under the direction of Alexander Lazarev) in the Herbert-von-Karajan-Stiftung competition; in 1972–73 he played under the direction of Maxim Shostakovich in the All-Union Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 1973 Viktor Grishin has been first percussionist at the Bolshoi Theater. Since 1977 he has also taught at the Moscow Conservatory. Since 1978 he directs the percussion ensemble of the Bolshoi Theater. Viktor Grishin has won prizes in many international competitions. In 1993 he was awarded the title “Honored Artist of the Russian Federation”.
