Orchestra of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno

About Orchestra of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno

The Orchestra of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno is a 80 member ensemble, including outstanding artistic personalities, who have proved their qualities as soloists and members of various chamber bodies (The Janáček Quartet, The Moravian Quartet, Brno Brass Quintet, Brno Brass Band, Czech Virtuosi, etc.). An excellent reputation has been built since the middle of the last century, for instance during the conductorship of František Neumann, when the orchestra not only enriched the cultural life of Brno as the Opera’s ensemble, but also thanks to regular symphonic concerts. Another significant period in the orchestra’s history was the conductorship and leadership of František Jílek. During the last few years, the orchestra has made successful achievements at an international scale, namely by countless performances of the Janáček Opera in Europe and Japan. Apart from opera productions, the orchestra is also engaged in performances of symphonies and cantatas, both at home and abroad.
