About Julia Sophie Wagner

Julia Sophie Wagner has become, since her debut in the Munich Hercules Hall, a much sought-after concert singer specializing in the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

She has been closely associated with Helmuth Rilling, with whom she has appeared in the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and the Festival House in Baden-Baden.

She has worked with many of the world’s leading Baroque ensembles, as well as with orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the RTVE orchestra in Madrid, the RAI in Turin, and the National Symphony in Washington, DC. In recent years, she has also turned her attention to the great Classic and Romantic oratorios. Her debut in Beethoven’s "Missa Solemnis" with conductor Julian Wachner at the Kennedy Center in Washington was called “the event of the year” by "Washington Life Magazine".

In vocal works by J. S. Bach, she has performed in the Frauenkirche in Dresden, the Bach Festival in Thüringen, the Kissinger Summer, the Würzburg Bach Festival, and also in Moscow and Prague. Julia Sophie Wagner has won prizes in numerous national and international competitions. She was a prizewinner in the Paula Salomon Lindberg Competition for Contemporary Song, and has received fellowships from the DAAD and the Leipzig Opera, among others.
