About Mayumi Miyata
Mayumi Miyata, was born in Tokyo. She graduated from the Kunitachi College of Music. Thereafter she studied “gagaku”, the classical Japanese court music. Since 1979 she has appeared in the National Theater of Japan and been a guest in countless concerts and festivals in Japan and abroad. Miyata has inspired both Japanese composers (including Toru Takemitsu and Toshio Hosokawa) and Western ones (such as John Cage and Klaus Huber) to write for sho. Mayumi Miyata regularly participates in the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt and has performed at the Donaueschingen Music Festival. She has been awarded numerous prizes.Products
