About Markus Stockhausen

Markus Stockhausen, trumpeter and composer, was born in 1957 and lives near Cologne as a free-lance musician. For a long time, he worked closely with his father, the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, who wrote a number of works for him. Today Markus appears internationally, usually performing his own, mostly improvised music. Together with the Light Artist Rolf Zavelberg, he conceived and composed Klangvisionen [Sound Visions]. He plays in various formations with musicians such as Tara Bouman (clarinet), Ferenc Snétberger (guitar), Angelo Comisso, Christian Thomé, Arild Andersen, Patrice Héral, and Vladyslav Sendecki, among many others. In his current project, “Eternal Voyage”, he plays with musicians from five different countries.

As a composer, Stockhausen has written for the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta, the Swiss Jazz Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony, Camerata Bern, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Metropol Orchestra, Cheltenham Festival Players, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, etc.

He has recorded more than sixty CDs. In 2005, he was named “Best Improviser” by the WDR (West German Radio). Markus Stockhausen gives courses for trumpeters, as well as courses such as “Intuitive Music and More” and “Singing and Silence”.
