About Joey Baron

The leading drummer of the Avantgarde pantheon likes his own stuff cool.

Before his succesful solo album ''Down Home'' one automatically linked star drummer Joey Baron to projects like John Zorn's "Masada" or "Naked City" (next to John Zorn with Bill Frisell, Fred Frith und Wayne Horvitz) - both of them anything other than easy fare, yet in turn both world-renowned. Of course the listening world also had the pleasure of experencing this inspired drummer in productions with other Jazz and Pop greats; among others he worked with Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Laurie Anderson, Art Pepper, Stan Getz, David Bowie, Philip Glass, John Abercrombie, Pat Martino, David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, John Scofield and John Lurie's Lounge Lizards. Aside from that Joey Baron is of course known as one of the founding members of the Bill Frisell Band. One good reason propably, why Bill came to join what's meanwhile become known as Joey Baron's working band, featuring Arthur Blythe and Ron Carter as well. With this gang Joey has recorded two outstanding albums under his own name so far for intuition, both of which are absolute failsafe recommendations for Jazz lovers.
