Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbruecken Kaiserslautern
Country of origin: Germany
About Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbruecken KaiserslauternThe German Radio Philharmonic in Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern was founded in 2007 following the fusion of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Saarbrucken (SR) and the Radio Orchestra in Kaiserslautern (SWR). The traditional Classic and Romantic orchestral repertoire, regular first performances of contemporary music, the distribution of commissions for new works, and historically informed performances of Pre-Classic works in collaboration with specialists form the basis of this orchestra’s activities. With the Saarbrücken Composers’ Workshop, the German Radio Philharmonic has created a podium for young composers to present their first orchestral compositions.
The orchestra plays concert series in both Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern. It also appears regularly in nearby France and Luxemburg, as well as in Brussels, Mainz, Karlsruhe, and Mannheim. Recent tours have taken the orchestra to Switzerland, China, Japan, and South Korea.
A number of CDs from the German Radio Philharmonic’s extensive discography have been awarded prizes internationally.
