About Ariel Zuckermann

Israeli-born Ariel Zuckermann is one of the most sought-after conductors of the younger generation. He studied conducting with the legendary Jorma Panula at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm and later with Bruno Weil at Munich’s Musikhochschule, where he graduated in May 2004. In January 2007 he was appointed Music Director of the renowned Georgian Chamber Orchestra.

The 2014/15 season sees Zuckermann’s debuts with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, the Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais and the Münchner Symphoniker. He returns to the Riga Sinfonietta, Poznań and Wrocław Philharmonic orchestras, Israel Chamber Orchestra and Georgian National Philharmonic in Tbilisi. He also tours with his own ensemble, Kolsimcha, with a programme based on their most recent CD, Contemporary Klezmer, on which he conducted the London Symphony Orchestra.

In 2003/04 Ariel Zuckermann was appointed Assistant Conductor to Iván Fischer at the Budapest Festival Orchestra. This period saw him acquire a large repertoire and conduct many performances to critical acclaim. He made well-received debuts with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin at Berlin’s Philharmonie in 2007, and with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi on tour in Spain in 2009. Further conducting engagements have included concerts and recordings with the Bayerische Staatsorchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Radio Orchestra Seoul, Hungarian National Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker and Danish National Symphony Orchestra, as well as Zurich, Basel and Stuttgart Chamber orchestras, Camerata Salzburg and Riga Sinfonietta. He also conducted a new production of Donizetti’s opera "Viva La Mamma" in Munich and, recently, the production of Telemann’s comic opera "Pimpinone".

Winner of numerous international competitions, Ariel Zuckermann began his musical career as a flautist. He studied flute in Munich with Paul Meisen and András Adorján, and later continued his training with Alain Marion and Aurèle Nicolet.
