The piece was written as one of the Project 250 pieces for Beethoven, which was initiated by Susanne Kessel in the lead up to 2020. 250 new piano pieces are being written by composers all over the world. Barbara Heller writes: "5 notes from Ludwig's wastepaper bin". The five notes (E-flat, B-flat, F, C and G) are from the three opening intervals of the Piano Sonata No. 26 in E-flat major "Les Adieux", Op. 81a.
