“Women Composers: A Graded Anthology for Guitar” is a new series from Eva Beneke and Heike Matthiesen that brings together an outstanding and long-overdue collection of guitar works by women composers.

Spanning the 18th century to the present day, this three-volume anthology is an invaluable educational resource, packed full of inspiring and engaging repertoire suitable for concerts, exams or personal study. Each piece is accompanied by rehearsal tips and biographical notes on the composers, allowing players to engage deeply with the music.

Volume 1 caters to beginners (around grades 1– 4), featuring accessible pieces that build technique and musicality. Volumes 2 and 3, due later this year, progress in difficulty, supporting guitarists as they learn.

Continuing Heike Matthiesen’s pioneering advocacy for women composers, this series represents a practical and significant step towards a more inclusive and representative guitar curriculum.
