What does Central Park sound like at night? Charles E. Ives provided an answer to this question 118 years ago with his piece Central Park in the Dark. There will be a new look at this question on 11 August 2024 at the Alte Seilerei in Frankfurt am Main, where Ensemble Modern will premiere Katherine Balch's adaptation.
Katherine Balch has composed a large-scale orchestral work for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The new piece, entitled musica pyralis, will be premiered on 16 February 2024 at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It will be performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Manfred Honeck.
Reinventing instruments: The world premiere of Katherine Balch's new work whisper concerto for violoncello and orchestra will take place in Dallas, Texas, on 20 April 2023 with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gemma New. Cellist Zlatomir Fung, the youngest musician to ever win the First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition Cello division, will perform as soloist.
On 7 February 2023 under the direction of Paolo Bortolameolli, the LA Phil New Music Group will perform the world premiere of Katherine Balch’s new composition for sixteen instruments, all around the sea blazed gold, at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles.
