Als Auftragswerk für den Physiker Sam Steppel komponierte Olli Mustonen drei Sätze unterschiedlichen Charakters: Auf die geheimnisvollen Klänge des Misterioso folgt ein wildes Furioso. Der prägnante dritte Satz (Ad Astra) erinnert zunächst an eine ernste Passacaglia, erreicht aber gegen Schluss ekstatische und beschwingte Höhen. Das Triptychon ist Steppels verstorbener Frau gewidmet.
