À propos de Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra

The Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has been one of Poland’s leading orchestras since its inception in 1945. In addition to the traditional repertoire, the orchestra has a long-standing commitment to contemporary music and performs new works throughout Poland and at international festivals. The orchestra has made numerous recordings, including a monumental project with the complete tone poems of Mieczysław Karlowicz. An album with works by George Gershwin conducted by Jerzy Salwarowski received a gold recording prize. In November 2007, Mirosław Jacek Blaszczyk conducted the Silesian Philhar monic Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in the first complete recording of Wojciech Kilar’s "Magnificat". The orchestra was also responsible for the first recordings of works by Alexander Tansman, Witold Lutosławski, Henryk Mikołaj, and others. In July 2000, the orchestra and chorus performed in Rome for Pope John Paul II under the direction of Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk. – www.filharmonia-slaska.eu
