The Moravská Filharmonie Olomouc (Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olo mouc), based in the historic capital of Moravia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious symphony orchestras in the Czech Republic. Founded directly after the Second World War on 26 May 1945, the orchestra is the center of musical activity in the region. Prominent artistic personalities of the Czech and international music world such as conductors Otto Klemperer and Václav Neumann, violinists Josef Suk and Gidon Kremer, and cellist Pierre Fournier have influenced the orchestra’s development. The Moravian Philharmonic has a broad and varied repertoire, focusing primarily on music from the 19th and 20th centuries, but also featuring works by contemporary Czech and international composers. The orchestra is also a respected interpreter of the classic Czech national composers Antonín Dvoqák, Bedqich Smetana, Leoš Janácek and Bohuslav Martinv. The Moravian Philharmonic has made numerous recordings and performs at major music festivals at home and abroad. The orchestra organizes the Olomouc Dvoqák Festival and the International Organ Festival in Olomouc, and offers a wide range of educational activities for children and young people.
