Georg Bönn was born 1965 in Krefeld. He studied composition with Jürg Baur and Krzysztof Meyer at the Musikhochschule, Cologne, until 1992, when he made his "Künstlerische Reifeprüfung". He visited the lectures for computer music with Klarenz Barlow. In 1993 he was granted a scholarship by the "Stiftung Kunst und Kultur des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen". Further studies in composition with Klaus Huber in Royaumont and Brian Ferneyhough in Paris, where he lived from 1993 to 1995 visiting the annual course in composition and musical computing at IRCAM. He then became composer in residence at ZKM (Center for Art and Media Technology) in Karlsruhe and was granted a scholarship by the Atelierhaus Worpswede.

In 1996 he designed the studio for electroacoustic music at the Hochschule für Künste, Bremen, where he teached a class for electroacoustic composition and computing from 1995 until 2000. From 1996 to 1999, he gave also classes in music analysis at the Hochschule für Künste and the University Bremen. In summer 1999 he became visiting scholar at CCRMA at Stanford, California. His works have been performed throughout Germany and France by Carin Levine, Pierre Dutrieu, Julia Whybrow, Ensemble Modern and Ensemble L'Itinéraire. He made several radio productions with his music at Radio Bremen, the Südwestrundfunk, Baden-Baden, and the Saarländischer Rundfunk in Saarbrücken. For the exploration of new sound phenomena, he constructs new instruments for his pieces and programs his own software.
