Description
Hosokawa wishes to express deep human emotion through his music. Deep sorrow and despair, joy and hope, longing and rapture. He is interested in expressing emotions sleeping deep within the human being, hidden from everyday view. It is not a particular "Japanese" sorrow or hope. Europeans often ask Hosokawa why he composed a Christmas cantata. His answer is always that the hopes and prayers that the Christmas Saviour will come, is something universal, an event that tells its story deep in the soul as his music does.
