Veličanie

(Lobgesänge / Glorification)
für Streichorchester
string orchestra
This work for string orchestra focuses on the concept of how quickly immeasurable veneration can transform itself into oblivion and contempt. The Russian word 'Veličanie' describes a specific singing technique which is chiefly heard within the context of celebration, ceremonies and larger gatherings. Veličanie depicts both the height of celebratory praise and the sudden fall from grandeur. Shrill and alarming sounds are used to characterise the reverse side of the coin of fame.
