Description
For my first string quartet, I found it important to compose a piece with a light and entertaining character which simultaneously possesses a ‘profound level’ – this dichotomy is what fascinates me in particular in quartets by Haydn and Mozart, as well as some of the Shostakovitch quartets. In this work, I have come very close to the origins of the string quartet genre which evolved out of the Baroque dance suite. Alongside dance rhythms from the classical tradition, my quartet also features elements from electronic pop music including hypnotic beats and repeat loops. Anno Schreier
