The composer's identity has not been definitely clarified yet. The sonatas op. 4 seem to have been composed around 1730. Both books of this edition were printed on the basis of the original print. Any additions made by the editor have been clearly marked. The pieces which were originally intended for 2 flutes were transposed a third up to enable recorders to play them.
