About Tom Mays* 1966 in Los Angeles, California. A composer and computer musician, Tom Mays’s compositions and improvisations include concert music for electroacoustics and for instruments with electronics, music for dance, theater, interactive installation and fi lm. Mays is currently working on the suite The Well-Tempered Patch for basic real-time processing and solo instruments, and is especially interested in gestural performance with real-time computer systems for both written and improvised music – most recently using a Karlax controller. He teaches Electroacoustic Composition and Performance at the Strasbourg Conservatory, computer music at the Paris Conservatory for the last 13 years, and also taught at the University Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée. He spent many years as a computer music designer (RIM) at Ircam Paris, working with invited composers, and giving frequent seminars, master classes and workshops at various universities, conservatories and other institutions throughout France and Europe. He is currently completing a PhD at the University of Paris 8 with Horacio Vaggione on the writing of music for real-time processing.
