About Thomas Fellow

Thomas Fellow studied concert guitar at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar with Monika and Jürgen Rost. During his time as a concert guitarist, he won prizes at various international competitions, played as a soloist with outstanding orchestras (including the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Chamber Orchestra Berlin) and gave concerts in India, Brazil, the USA, Russia and many major European cities. Various renowned composers dedicated compositions to him and entrusted him with the premiere of these works (including Carlo Domeniconi and Jaime Zenamon).

He ended his classical career in 1992 with a successful concert at the Philharmonie Berlin. Since then, he has concentrated on his own music in selected projects. With his two duos FRIEND 'N FELLOW and HANDS ON STRINGS as well as the EUROPEAN GUITAR QUARTET (with Zoran Dukic, Pavel Steidl and Reentko Dirks) he has given almost 3,000 concerts in over 30 countries. With the EUROPEAN GUITAR QUARTET he played at venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Moscow's Tchaikovsky Hall or New York's Kaufmann Concert Hall, with FRIEND 'N FELLOW at the Penang Jazz Festival (Malaysia) and at the legendary THE 100 CLUB in London, among others, and with his duo HANDS ON STRINGS at the Festival of the Nations in Rome and at the Leipzig Gewandhaus.

He shared the stage with legends such as Luther Allison, Ray Charles, Al Jarreau or Tommy Emmanuel. In 2018, he returned to the "classical music metier" once again at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and performed works by Mendelssohn, among others, with the world stars SABINE MEYER and the KINGS SINGERS.

For a few years now, Thomas Fellow has also been increasingly appearing as a composer and author. Some of his compositions can already be found on CDs of renowned performers, are played in concerts throughout the world or are taught through the TRINITY College programme in over 60 countries. His edition "Fellow Guitar Music Collection" is published by Schott Music, as is his standard work "Fellow Guitar Book" for the guitar as an accompanying instrument.

Since 1992, Thomas Fellow has been teaching at the Musikhochschule Dresden. Within a few years, he developed the idea of a universal and modern education for guitar, thanks to which the Musikhochschule is now one of the leading educational institutions for this instrument with many competition prize winners, scholarship holders and internationally performing artists. In 2018, Thomas Fellow was awarded the Saxon Teaching Award for this innovative idea.

Thomas Fellow was a guest lecturer for "World Music/Modern Styles" at the Musikhochschule Weimar for many years and is regularly invited to universities (e.g. Capital University Columbus / USA; Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica Granada / Spain; Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz / Austria) and to renowned festivals worldwide.

Besides his professorship at the Musikhochschule Dresden and his activities as a composer, label founder and festival organiser, he focuses wholeheartedly on his three musical projects:
FRIEND `N FELLOW, HANDS ON STRINGS, EUROPEAN GUITAR QUARTET
