About Hermann Baeumer

Hermann Bäumer has since 2011 been principal conductor of the Philharmonic State Orchestra in Mainz and general music director of the State Theater there. As a guest conductor, he has led renowned ensembles such as the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Bamberg Symphony, the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich, the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, the Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the West German Radio Orchestra, Ensemble Resonanz, the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Oslo, the Norwegian National Opera, the Helsinki Radio Orchestra, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of St. Gallen, and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

Bäumer has also developed a reputation for discovering and re-discovering unusual repertoire. Current recording projects include works by Christian Wilhelm Westerhoff (with the Osnabruck Symphony Orchestra) and the violin concertos of Max Bruch (with the violinist Antje Weithaas and the North German Radio Philharmonic in Hanover).

Bäumer is also known for his extensive work with youth orchestras throughout Germany, such as the German National Youth Orchestra, the Young German Philharmonic and the State Youth Orchestra in Rheinland-Pfalz.
